CIRCULAR HOTSPOT

We need to seriously rethink our way of building. The circular hotspot C-Bèta takes initiative to bring people together for collaborative innovation. Entrepreneurs, governments, investors, researchers and consultants and whomever is next. Showing new initiatives of pioneers in the field, a destination to share knowledge and educate face to face. In the rural area of Schiphol this location has major ambitions, atmosphere and potential growth. Circular hotspot is an incubator spot for a bigger area development called Circular Valley. The initial development plan for Circular Valley of 20.000 m2 was made by William McDonough and Schiphol Area Development Company (SADC), to create the first business hub in the world fully focused on circular entrepreneurship.

circular is better than new

APTO Architects was asked to reinvent the concept of the exhibition hall, optimize the businesscase and add a flex workspace area in the vacant farmhouse dated from 1895. As APTO is always looking for the real story to tell in a design, C-Bèta is a place of a million stories. Every piece of this puzzle was constructed in the thought of the circular way of building. Upcycled paint, re-used window frames which are leased, flooring of fishing nets, 3D printed lights payed by use, wall panels of wood and paper based materials, former greenhouses, heating through infrared panels, all electric driven energy consumption, sharing cars and so much more. Al this with the one goal to show that the circular way of building is so much cooler and satisfying then buying something new.

connecting parties

Mark Halbmeijer, Apto Architects: "In my opinion, C-Beta is an 'organic lab'. A place where entrepreneurs can share knowledge and discover new, circular possibilities. Where an active community of creators can emerge, essential for this place to grow. It is still far too easy to purchase new products. We need to make the circular economy more accessible and more attractive. Technical innovations are often available in the market, but a world is to be gained in terms of contracting and financing. C-Beta can play a role by connecting, informing and inspiring parties. Exchange is a necessary condition for speeding up the circular economy. "
