The vacant building ‘Eigenhaard’ in Zwanenburg, the Netherlands, was a nursing home for elderly. The wish of Woonzorg NL was making a transition to an assistive living for elderly, combined with a community centre for the neighbourhood. APTO Architects redesigned the central meeting space in the building in close collaboration with the end users. This new space will bring residents and neighbours together.
The space should not look like the typical healthcare institute. The look and feel should be like a living room. Next to that, the activities and use of the building should serve the new type of residents and neighbourhood.
