elderly homes reimagined

changing care
systems

The care system in the Netherlands has changed from subsidised organisation to personal budgets for the actual people in need of care. People are in control of choosing the how they spend their budget for care. Elderly homes should be approaching their residents as guests. Service packaging and pay per use are much more relevant. With the rapid aging population of Holland, the role of how these homes are serving the needs for healthy aging, social engagement and mobility of these people are much more relevant. We create strategies and concepts how to implement the needs into spatial and service models.

locations

For several locations of WoonzorgNL APTO researched the opportunities for opening up the elderly homes to the surrounding neighbourhoods as neighbourhood service and social meeting place. Two more suburban locations at Zwanenburg and Blokker nex to Hoorn and one city location at Amsterdam East Open hof. On all locations interactive sessions were hosted by APTO to discuss with residents, staff, heathcare suppliers and family of residents, what the new living landscape should host. On two locations at Zwanenburg and Blokker the results are already implemented. Designs of these places were also executed by APTO.
