APTO Architects is always looking for enthusiastic interns. But why should you be an intern at APTO? You can always check our projects page to know what we are able to do. But what is it like to be an intern at APTO? We interviewed with our former intern Marta Del Rincón Yohn about her time as an intern at APTO.
APTO is not just an office where you just work and you learn. I would say that it is like a strange and big family.
Working on projects
Marta: "The project that I enjoyed the most was the double project of NH hotels. The schedule was quite tight, the work was a lot, the architectural information was limited and the square meters that we had to design were excessive. Maybe you are wondering why after all this cons I am saying that this one was the one I enjoyed the most, but it was really special for me. First of all, it was the last project I realized before leaving APTO; secondly it was the only project that I worked on from the beginning till the end. In two months we ran through the preliminary, final and technical design so I could learn about the different steps of the project. Another reason why I enjoyed this project was because I felt that the team trusted in me even though I was just an intern. I had my own responsibility within the project and this made me feel valued. The last reason but not less important was the team. Working in a small team was amazing because we created strong links between us after so many hours of working together. Besides, the organization of the amount of work was excellent. Everyday we had a morning meeting where the points achieved the day before were discussed."

A VALUABLE PART OF THE TEAM
Marta: "I started my internship in the third week of August 2017. On the 13th of October, it was the official opening of the new APTO office. While we were preparing all the stuff for the event, I was just thinking about a ‘party’ in which I was not involved. When all the guests were arriving to the office, I was getting nervous because I didn’t know anyone. I was the new intern, I didn´t know how to behave with the guests. But in some way everything was different because I was not just in an opening of the office I was working for. I was feeling lucky for being present in an important moment for APTO. It was becoming an important moment for me, those workers started to be colleagues and that office, home. After this moment I think I changed my behavior, and I realized that APTO also did the same with me. I started to be part of important projects and have my own responsibilities."
ADVICE FOR FUTURE INTERNS
Marta: "I would say that you should enjoy every moment at the office. APTO is not just an office where you work and you learn (off course that happens). I would say that it is like a strange, big family. You should work hard of course, but the most important is that you get yourself involved in the projects. In this way, you gain the most in knowledge and experience."
