zeeburg's new imaginary island
The island master plan consists of three pavilions with a landscaped area in between, linking and connecting the space and experiences as a whole. Central to the heart of the scheme is a restaurant. Embracing local and seasonal products, here the neighbourhood can come together to cook, eat and enjoy this shared space for everyone. In the surrounding landscape there are hubs for innovation and education and more pavilions dedicated to neighbourhood initiatives.
Milan: ‘Our office is located on Cruquius Island. We’re always interested in what’s happening in our area, spatially in our ‘neighbourhood’ and how the people in our community are connecting with each other. When we became aware of the competition, we put our heads together to form a project team with Yuval Herrmann from ZHN management, Bas Lammersen and Seger Abels, restaurateur from renowned Sjefietshe, in The Pijp. We are all no strangers to collaboration and working together.’
With the vision and brief from the municipality on the table Apto, together with the project team, developed the concept collaboratively over a number of workshops and inspiring ideation sessions.
To fully realise the concept Apto Architects have partnered with Dynamo; a social partner in the area who brings connectivity for the team with local residents. With their human centred approach to design, Dynamo’s expertise will lead the team through engagement and collaborative initiatives with various community groups, harnessing the momentum of great ideas, business’ and relationships that already exist in the neighbourhood today.
Milan: ‘We of course are already big advocates of this approach and this way of working together, excited to soon envision a place where we ourselves will also love to be!’
