Apto Architects has developed the concept, branding and design for the first Grab & Fly for HMSHost in 2013 with the purpose to do a rollout over multiple locations. HMSHost is one of the world’s largest providers of food and beverage services for travelers. The design of the Grab & Fly unit had to be new, fresh and streamlined, so passengers can easily grab their goodies, take a run and still catch their plane. On top of that, the design is an eye catcher for every airport. Easily recognizable for all travels on the go. It is produced as a prefab method, completely parametrical designed and digitally fabricated to fit any location. Meanwhile, Apto’s design of the Grab & Fly unit is being spread all over Europe’s airports.

From learning to sharing knowledge
The process of dreaming up an innovative idea and then practically applying to make it work commercially has been a challenging one, yet also rewarding. Integrating the processes of programmatic planning, design and construction has been a ongoing challenge. At Apto we believe it is important to openly share knowledge about important innovations, helping society collectively move forward. As part of this we annually host lectures and workshops for students at the TUDelft. In doing so, we not only impart sector knowledge and experience to the students, but we also receive their fresh and innovating ideas and approach’s to long established sector challenges.
Therefore we educate students of the TUDelft during yearly sessions.
