Bringing people together.
Three beautiful historic buildings form the bustling heart of Cruquius island, the peninsula in the eastern harbor area of Amsterdam. About a century ago, the melted coconut oil from NV oliefabrieken Insulinde was still waiting to be distributed. But today it forms the social heart in the rapid growing neighbourhood.
The KRUX brewery is located in the Insulinde House, the Pompen Building has become an Italian restaurant La Contessa and the Boiler House has become Amvest Studio. The children from the neighborhood also know how to find the green areas and the playground.
It has been a joy to create this special project at Cruquius so close to our home. Apto has been involved from concept to architecture, and even to interior and construction. A place that strengthens the local community: bringing residents and employees of the area together.
