Apto Architects translated the organisational pillars for SHV Energy’s head office into a spatial and functional concept, applying biophilic design principles. At the core of the workplace, near the main entrance, a green valley features a landscape of bamboo and flourishing greenery. As you move from the valley to the workplace, you pass through the forest, a space dedicated to formal meetings. At the outer edges of the office, the mountains receive the most daylight and provide areas dedicated to employees and their teams.
Translating organization pillars into a new physical workplace.
“ With this office we'd like to set a good example. ”
Build on circular principles
SHV Energy has ambitious and targeted goals for sustainability. Their biogas products are supplied worldwide. To set an example with this office, we aimed to minimise its environmental impact. In collaboration with Alba Concepts, we developed a strategy to implement circular design principles.
For instance, we used bamboo flooring, recycled plastic felt panelling, and avoided glued solutions in all interior connections. Additionally, we incorporated plants to support employee wellbeing, adaptive lighting systems with activity sensors, rounded interior objects, and strategically placed water taps. We also included carpets made from recycled fishing nets, real-time information on SHV Energy’s sustainable impact, and knowledge sharing through storytelling about all sustainable interventions.
