Revitalising Apto’s former office

After seven years filled with adventure and hard work, Apto moved to a new location. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing our former office come to life again through a new design for its new owner and user, Siersema. The street-level office is located in the newly developed Cruquius Island district, where Apto has designed multiple projects, including the Insulindefabriek. This stacked, multifunctional commercial building sits on the main axis of the area.

A place where people meet, hospitality and craftsmanship

Siersema is an expert and supplier of fabrics for both private and commercial clients. With this studio and showroom, Siersema aimed to welcome clients in an inspiring environment, a place where hospitality, showroom, and workplace seamlessly blend for both visitors and employees.

Pioneering craftsmanship in fabrics, made visible by Apto

The eye-catcher in the double-height entrance space is visible from the outside. Upholstery combined with lighting creates a strong visual statement behind the large windows. For Siersema, showcasing their expertise in craftsmanship was a key starting point, with materials taking centre stage. Various wall coverings, curtain solutions, and upholstered furniture and bespoke elements demonstrate the breadth of their craftsmanship.

Form follows materials

An interior shaped by its own products as the basis for materialisation. Before starting the spatial design, Apto Architects first structured the space by positioning the materials and craftsmanship that needed to be showcased. From this foundation, the functional layout of the different zones naturally emerged. The showroom is conceived as a multifunctional space, where work areas and showroom zones are continuously combined with different material expressions. On the ground floor, a large continuous cabinet wall connects the spaces, serving both as a display element and as storage for materials and products.
