Workplace Concept

Since 2020, we have been developing the workplace concept and layouts for an 18,000 m² office in the Tripolis building in Amsterdam, in close collaboration with Sunday Real Estate. Recently, the full interior was completed, thanks to the great work of Hollandse Nieuwe and Stone Projectmanagement in bringing this vision to life. As a result, the environment enables the client to perform at their best, while also supporting healthy and productive employees.

Moreover, this project came with some interesting challenges and contrasts. For instance, the raw shell was transformed into a functional and welcoming work environment. Additionally, the combination of monumental stairwells and newly added wings made it a unique puzzle to solve. The final outcome is impressive: it includes meeting spaces, an auditorium, and a restaurant with a professional kitchen.

Therefore, we’re proud to have played a part in bringing it to life.

Connection with Nature

To connect the iconic Van Eyck office building from 1967 with the new structure, we introduced a green lung. This element serves as both a physical and symbolic link, bringing the historic and the new together, and allowing users to move smoothly between the two buildings.

In addition, the route is part of a new circulation concept that supports orientation, connection and interaction. Along the way, we created clear landing zones that encourage meeting, collaboration and the exchange of ideas.

Overall, this path acts as the heart of the building, encouraging movement and connection throughout. A standout feature is the Stonehenges, where specially designed lighting installations create inspiring spaces that enhance the user experience.

Strategic Zoning and a Unified Experience

We designed three distinct zones within the building:

– Welcoming zone with reception areas, coffee bars and informal meeting spaces.

– Stimulating zone for collaboration.

– Serene zone for focused and concentrated work.

Together, these zones serve different purposes and offer unique atmospheres, yet they are all connected through a consistent and recognisable palette of materials. Moreover, natural oak and bio terrazzo bring warmth and a sense of hospitality, while maintaining a refined and high-quality feel.

Apto Architects was responsible for developing the workplace concept for this distinctive office environment. Starting from the client’s ambitions and values, we translated their vision into a clear spatial strategy and functional zoning. In doing so, our concept prioritises connectivity, wellbeing, and intuitive user experience, ultimately laying the foundation for a vibrant, sustainable workplace where people can meet, collaborate, and thrive.
